Located about 120 km south west of Dease Lake on the banks of the Telegraph Creek and Stikine River is the home of the Tahltan First Nations. In the past, the Tahltan and Tlinglit people are said to have met to conduct major trade in this small northern supply outpost.
Today, Telegraph Creek is predominantly inhabited by the Tahltan and many of the historic buildings dating back a century or older had been restored.
In 2018, a wildfire tore through the town, destroying homes and structures forcing the majority of the town to evacuate. Since early 2019, the town has been under reconstruction. Residents have returned and most services have been restored.
